Day trips from Arusha
Walking in villages of Mt. Meru.
Pick up from hotel around 0900 and drive to Nkoaranga (40 min). The
walking starts through the local hospital and then proceeds through Poli
village. On the way you will see many small houses and banana-, maize-,
and coffee plantations. The path will now start to go walk up, and after
1 hour we you will reach Sura village, 1650 meter above sea. Here you
have a great view over the plains in Arusha district, the top of Mt.
Meru and on a good day you can also see Mt. Kilimanjaro. Now its time
for visiting a farmer that will show you how they live at the farm and
how he is producing coffee, banana and maize. After the guiding you will
be served traditional Tanzanian food at the farm. After the lunch you
proceed to a water source before you start to walk down to Nkoaranga (1
hour). At Nkoaranga centre you will visit the orphanage and the
Secondary school to see how the children are doing.
The money from this trip goes directly to the farmer, orphanage, school
and your guide.
Its possible to buy fresh coffee made of the farmers in Mt. Meru.

Tengeru Local market and trip around Lake Doluti.
Only on Wednesdays and Saturdays
Picked up from hotel around 0900 and drive to Tengeru local Marked (25
min). People are coming from far away to sell their vegetables, fruits,
spices, textiles, kitchen equipment aso. At the market your guide will
show you the different parts and its possible to buy things at a very
low price, but you have to bargain. The food department has recently got
an upgrade and looks better than the other parts. After walking in the
crowd its time for lunch at the quite and beautiful Lake Doluti. The
lunch will be served down by the crater lake and you can watch the many
bird species while you eat. After the good meal you will take a walk
around the lake. There are many big, old trees and different flowers and
birds that the guide can tell you about. The walk takes about 1 hour.
Alternatively or in addition you can have a canoing trip at the lake.
From the canoe you can get very close to the birds at the water. Length: Full day
Canoeing in Arusha National Park
Start 0800 from hotel and drive to Arusha National Park. Here you will
go canoeing on one of the Momella lakes in the park. There is a high
variety of fauna and flora in the park that you will be able to see from
your canoe. After some hours in the boat you will have a lunch by the
water. After eating you will go on a game drive in the park. There is a
small crater to visit and you can see both Mt. Meru and Kilimanjaro if
the weather is good.

Snake park and local market in Arusha town.
Picked up at hotel around 0900 and drive to the Snake Park west of town. In the Snake
Park you get a guided tour among the snakes, reptiles and birds. It’s
also possible to take a short camel ride. Lunch is served in the park.
If you want you can have a look at the very nice Masaai museum.
Thereafter you proceed back to town to Arusha local market. Here you
will find a huge variety of vegetables, fruits, fishes and spices. Some
fruits and fishes are all the way from the cost and Lake Victoria. You
can also find some handcrafts, hardware, electrical things etc. Outside
the market hall there are plenty of small textile shops where you can
find very cheap and high quality products. If you have some time in
Arusha you can ask the tailor to sew a dress for you. When you are
satisfied with watching and shopping, your guide will take you back to
your hotel.

Masaai culture trip.
Picked up at hotel around 0900 and drive to the masaai village. Here you
will be shown some of their important customs. The masaai men will bring
a goat for you and slaughter it. They do this when they receive guests.
The masaai use everything of the goat and they love the fresh blood. The
goat will then be barbecued on a fire before you can taste it. The
masaai women will show you their traditional dance. A picnic lunch will
be served before you will have a short walk with the masaai people and
their goats. After walking you will return to your hotel in Arusha.
The money from this trip will go directly to the masaai people of the
village.

Short walk at Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Picked up at hotel around 0800 and drive to Marangu where the gate for
Mt. Kilimanjaro National park is (1970m). The walk passes through lush
vegetation of the mountain rain to Mandara hut (2700 m) and takes 3-4
hours. Lunch will be served when you reach the hut. From the hut you
have a great view over Moshi district. Descending down to the gate takes
shorter time and you will be back at your hotel before darkness. Length: Full day

Trip around Lake Doluti.

Lake Doluti. The lake is a small crater and its very deep. There are
many big, old trees and different flowers and birds that the guide can
tell you about. You can also choose to go canoeing on the lake. On one side of the lake there is a small cafe where you
can take a soda after the walking and look at the quite area. Length: Half day
Day trips at Zanzibar
Stone Town trip.
Places of interest: The earlier slave market, slave chambers, fruit- and
vegetable market, the earlier German Consulate, African house (earlier
British Club, the house of slave trader Tippu-Tip, The house of wonders,
The Forodhani park, The palace of the Sultan, The fort, Livingstone's
house and of course Stone Towns funny, narrow streets, several of them
with exiting and fascinating architecture inspired by African and Indian
culture.

Spice tour.
The classic spice tour of Zanzibar. You can taste and smell pepper,
vanilla, nutmeg, clove, cardamom and many other spices. You can see how
they grow and looks before they are put in plastic bags and sold in the
shop. You will also see and taste different tropical fruits, and see and
learn about tropical trees, for example the lip gloss tree and
ylang-ylang.
The trip passes Kibweni palace and Kidichi to see the Persian baths
built by the first Sultan of Zanzibar in 1850. Thereafter you will visit
a local spice plantation where you also can taste different spices and
also buy them. In the end we visit the government spice plantation to
see more special plants.

Safari Blue.
You are travelling to the fishing village called Fumba, 30 min outside
Stone Town where a local dhow are waiting you. Before boarding, there
will be a demonstration of safety vests and the program of the day will
be presented and you will get a drink. It is 85% change that you will
see Dolphins in Menai bay. You can swim with them if they are close to
the boat. If you want to snorkel there the boat will go to a nice place.
At this place you will stop and taste juice from green coconut together
with some Swahili snacks. Lunch will be taken at Kwale Island and
consisting of grilled fish, lobster, lentils, rice and fish pot, fruit
salad, fruit juices with more. Beer, sodas, Amarua liqueur and coffee.
When the sun starts to set, after a relaxing day at the sand bank that
some people describes as “the most beautiful place in the world” the
dhow returns back to Fumba.

Chunguu-Island (Prison Island).
At this island you can see the protected giant land tortoise that are
more than 100 years old. You can also feed them. The island is nice for
bathing and snorkeling. The Island was bought by General Mathew who built
a prison here in 1893, but it was never used.

Dolphin tour to Kizimkaze.
A trip to Kizimkaze fishing village at the south side of Zanzibar. Here
you will visit a mosque from the 12. Century, the first evidence of
Islam in East-Africa. At Kisimkaze you can see one of the biggest Baobab
trees at the island. The place is nice for bathing and snorkeling. In this
area you can find Humpback Dolphins. You will travel on the Indian in a
wooden boat and the guide knows where to find the Dolphins. If you are
lucky you can swim with them. Lunch is served on a local restaurant.

Joazani forest.
Joazani forest is the last remains of the original forest at Zanzibar,
with a rich flora and fauna. You can see the seldom Red Colobus monkey
that lives in groups up to 30 animals. Your guide knows where they are
at any time. He will also guide you through the mangrove forest and show
you small crabs, fish and different types of mangrove (trees living in
water). If you want he can take you through some of the forest showing
you the tropical forest with high trees and a roof made of leaves. By
the reception there is a shop with beautiful souvenirs made by a women
collective from a village close to the forest.

Art trip in Stone Town.
First you will visit a banana leaf artist in his studio. His special
technique is an unique form of art, with uses of only paper, razor
blades, banana leafs and glue. He is also doing water color painting.
The artist has had several exhibitions in East-Africa, Japan and
Denmark. He is making small and big pictures and they are all for sale.
Afterwards you will visit a batik-workshop in one of the old private
houses in Stone Town. You will see wax batik and more, and in the end we
visit the shop where you can see the finished products like table cloth
with napkins, pillow case, shirts, dresses, pictures, lamp shade and so
on. You can also buy jewelers, water color paintings and fragrant
oils.

Local ocean fishing.
Join a fishing trip in a local boat in the Indian Ocean! The guides are
traditional fishermen and know the best fishing places. They will take
you out from Stone Town. The catch of the day will be cooked in the
boat. You can only imagine freshly grilled Kingfish or Barracuda! Water
and soda is included.
