Ngorongoro Conservation Area “The Eight Wonder” This area consist of 8300 square kilometers and includes: Ngorongoro Crater which is 20 km wide. Nearly two million years ago Ngorongoro Peak towered almost as high as Kilimanjaro. Both these mountains formed the highest peaks in Africa at that time. The Ngorongoro Volcanic peak collapsed beneath the volcano to form a caledra, the largest unbroken and unflooded in the world today. Although a geological feature formed by the withdrawal of molten in this manner is correctly called a caldera, many people are traditionally used to the term Crater and hence Ngorongoro Caledra is described as crater in all records available. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the few natural places in East Africa where one can sight the rare Black Rhinos in their natural settings. Lake Eyasi where the Hadzabe people have lived for 10 000 years. Their lifestyle is still centred around hunting and gathering traditions. Engaruka which is a village close to the ruins of a complex irrigation system with terraced stone housing sites estimated to be at least 500 years old. Oldoinyo Lengai which has one of Tanzania’s most rugged and unusual scenery and trekking. It is 2878m. Embakai Crater. Small and beautiful with a lake in the bottom. You can walk down with a ranger and come very close to the flamingos. Olduvai George where they have found documentation of ancient life.
